T. Dilip, India’s fielding coach,
shared details about a competitive fielding drill he introduced during Monday’s
practice session ahead of the Test series opener against Bangladesh in Chennai.
He explained that the drill aimed to engage the entire team. "Today's
session was designed as a team drill with two segments. The first was a
competition drill, tailored to the Chennai humidity. We kept the volume low but
ensured high intensity. We divided the team into two groups and introduced a
competitive element in catching. The team with fewer errors emerged victorious,
and today, Virat’s team came out on top," Dilip said in a video posted on
the BCCI's X account.

T. Dilip, India's fielding coach,
discussed a new competitive fielding drill implemented during Monday’s practice
session in preparation for the Test series opener against Bangladesh in
Chennai. The aim of the drill was to engage the entire team. "The session
was designed as a team drill with two segments. The first was a competitive
drill, adapted to Chennai's humidity. We kept the volume low but maintained
high intensity. We divided the team into two groups for a catching competition,
where the team with fewer errors won. Today, Virat's team emerged
victorious," Dilip explained in a video shared on the BCCI's X account.
India will kick off their home
season with the Test series against Bangladesh at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium
from September 19-23. The second Test will take place at the Green Park Stadium
in Kanpur from September 27 to October 1.
Dilip also highlighted how the
team focused on outfield and close-in catching, adapting to Chennai’s humid
conditions. "We divided the squad into two groups: bowlers and
all-rounders worked on outfield and infield catching, along with attacking
ground fielding, while the batter's group focused on slip cordon catches and
reflex training at short-leg and silly point," he said.
"Overall, it was an
excellent session given the hot conditions. The team maintained top-notch
intensity across all drills, regardless of the weather," he added.
Both Test matches are part of the
2023-2025 World Test Championship cycle. India currently leads the table with
68.52 percentage points, while Bangladesh holds fourth place with 45.83
percentage points.
The series against Bangladesh
marks the beginning of a challenging 10-match Test season for India, which
includes hosting New Zealand for a three-match series in October-November.
Following this, India will travel
to Australia for the crucial five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, aiming
to secure a spot in the 2025 World Test Championship final, scheduled to take
place at Lord's from June 11 to 15 next year.
